Mental Health Support Worker Qualifications and Experience:

Job Summary

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will be required to work across the various units in the organisation during your shift. Your shift pattern could be 08:00 – 14:00 or 14:00 – 20:00.You will be part of a dynamic team providing a safe environment where service users with complex and challenging needs are encouraged and supported to live as independently as possible using their tailored support plans to form the basis for effective interactions and interventions. The Mental Health Support Worker will support the service users to develop and expand their life skills so that they can lead full and active lives within the community.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

As Mental Health Support staff, your main duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • To help service users with personal care as and when required
  • Frequently check on service users to ensure their safety and wellbeing
  • Undertake regular health and safety checks in service users’ rooms to ensure their safety is maintained at all times.
  • Liaise with relevant agencies in the event of power cuts, gas or water leaks
  • To build a good working relationship with our service users and other professionals to meet customer’s needs.
  • To monitor and evaluate the progress of customers against their support plan
  • To hold regular key work sessions with key clients in line with Diverse Services practices
  • To liaise with other relevant agencies, carers and other stakeholders, as appropriate
  • To assist customers to minimise substance abuse and implement harm minimisation strategies where appropriate
  • To identify potential risk of harm and abuse to Service users and others and implement recommended plan of action to mitigate same
  • To work with service users to challenge behaviours that create risk and establish agreed boundaries and expectations
  • To implement strategies to manage conflict
  • To encourage customers to reduce their risk of involvement with the criminal justice system
  • To develop good interpersonal relationships with customers and offer them appropriate emotional support
  • To attend team meetings and mandatory training programmes which the staff is nominated to attend.
  • To monitor customer’s physical health and encourage them to develop healthy lifestyles.
  • To ensure Diverse Services Limited Quality Management Systems including our online database and the day to day project administration paperwork is effective and of good quality

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

A Level 2 NVQ qualification or its equivalent in Care would be useful. Applicants who do not have this qualification but demonstrate enough commitment to the values and principles Diverse Services will be encouraged and supported to achieve this if you do not already have the Care Certificate.

1. Some form of an experience of working with vulnerable adults would be preferable in this post

2. Understanding of how mental health problems, learning disabilities and complex needs may affect individuals in their day to day functioning

3. Ability to establish and maintain rapport and liaise appropriately with customers, colleagues, clinicians and other external support services.

4. Good IT skills and capacity to adapt easily to new systems

5. Good written and verbal communication skills

6. Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures

7. Commitment to, and understanding of equality of opportunity and management of diversity

8. Good knowledge of what best practice is in Health & Safety

9. Ability to work flexibly on a rolling rota at different sites and on a 24-hour shift pattern which includes weekends, Christmas and other bank holidays 

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE & PERSONNEL INFORMATION:

The conditions of service for Diverse Services Waking Night Mental Health Support Worker are as follows:

1. Annual Leave: 25 days per annum including Bank Holidays.

2. Pension: You will be automatically enrolled in the Diverse Services pension scheme which is administered by NEST.

3. Hours: The normal working week is 36 hours per week.

4. Location: The unit you will located at will be agreed at a later date

5. Probation: The first 6 months of your employment will serve as a probationary period. During this period your performance and conduct will be monitored. Upon successful completion of your probationary period, your appointment will be confirmed with a letter.

6. Contract of Employment: Issued on appointment to post.

7. Screening: This post is subject to satisfactory references, pre-appointment Health Assessment & an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Waking Night Mental Health Support Worker Qualifications and Experience:

Job Summary

As a Waking Night Staff, you will be required to remain awake at all times, during your shift. Your shift hours are between 8pm to 8am. You will be part of a dynamic team providing a safe environment where people with complex and challenging needs are encouraged to live as independently as possible using their tailored support plans to form the basis for effective interactions and interventions. Waking Night Support Worker will support the service users to develop and expand their life skills so that they can lead full and active lives within the community.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

As waking night staff, your main duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • To help service users with personal care as and when required

  • To attend staff meetings and mandatory training which will be during daytime hours
  • Ensure that the units are thoroughly cleaned including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces, washing dishes etc.
