About the role

We are looking for a responsible and watchful Night Worker to support the safety and wellbeing of adults in our supported living homes overnight. This role is essential in keeping a calm, secure environment at night, particularly for people with mental health needs.

Reports to: Service Manager / On-Call Manager.

Key responsibilities

1. Observation and monitoring

  • Monitor the building by CCTV to keep the people we support and the building safe during the night.
  • Carry out regular visual checks and report any unusual or suspicious activity.

2. Responding to incidents

  • Wake the sleep-in staff if there is an incident or someone is in distress (where applicable).
  • Where no sleep-in staff are present, contact the On-Call Manager for advice, support, or to escalate concerns.
  • Contact emergency services (for example police or ambulance) when needed, following the correct procedures.

3. Communication and record keeping

  • Receive a clear handover at the start of each shift.
  • Give a full handover at the end of each shift.
  • Record all relevant observations, activity and incidents in detailed nightly logs.
  • Complete incident reports accurately and in line with our policy.

4. Following our policies

  • Follow all our policies and procedures, including health and safety, safeguarding, fire safety and confidentiality.
  • Keep emergency exits clear, and fully understand and follow fire safety procedures.

Person specification

Essential

  • Experience in a care or supported living setting (mental health experience is desirable).
  • Able to stay calm under pressure and respond well in emergencies.
  • Strong observation skills and attention to detail.
  • Good written and spoken communication.
  • Able to follow procedures and escalate concerns when needed.
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work on your own.

Desirable

  • Understanding of mental health conditions and experience supporting adults who may be vulnerable.
  • First Aid and/or Health and Safety training.
  • Experience using CCTV systems.

Additional information

  • This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
  • Full induction and training will be provided.
